The Monsal Trail in Derbyshire is an 8.5 mile long traffic-free path on the site of a decommissioned railway line which offers a scenic and accessible route for cycling, walking, horse riding and wheelchair users, exploring the stunning countryside between Blackwell Mill near Buxton and Bakewell. Attracting over 400,000 visitors every year, this is one of most popular tourist destinations in the Peak District National Park.
Whether you’re seeking a leisurely ride or a challenging hike, the trail caters to all abilities, including those with mobility aids. Starting from Buxton, you can discover the picturesque villages of Miller’s Dale, Bakewell and Ashford-in-the-Water, as well as the iconic Monsal Head and its breath-taking viaduct, all easily accessible along the trail.
The Park Apartments has facilities and racks for bicycle storage, and we are currently in the process of adding a wet room for when you return from those muddier adventures. Bicycles, e-bikes and cycling options for children are available from Peak Ascent Cycles in Buxton and Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire.
