The local festivities officially begin with the highly anticipated Buxton Christmas Lights Switch-On and Lantern Parade on Saturday, 28th November. The magical lantern procession starts at 5:00 PM at The Pump Room, weaving its way through town before the Christmas lights sparkle into life at 7:00 PM. It’s a heart-warming community celebration filled with entertainment and joy.
Throughout December, you can also explore the local Buxton Christmas markets. Strolling through the stalls with a cup of steaming mulled wine is the perfect way to find unique, handcrafted gifts and local Peak District delicacies. While you’re in town, don’t miss the magical Sleeping Beauty pantomime at the iconic Buxton Opera House (running from the 4th of December) or the spectacular underground Christmas displays illuminating the caves at Poole’s Cavern.

The Christmas Lights Switch-On is a truly special event, featuring a Santa’s Parade along Cross Street at 4:00 PM and the grand countdown at 4:30 PM. The sight of the village aglow, set against the dramatic backdrop of the spectacularly floodlit Peveril Castle, is unforgettable.
If you want to experience something truly unique, Castleton is also famous for its atmospheric Christmas Carol Concerts inside Peak Cavern. Running on select dates throughout December, the acoustics and candlelit ambiance in the cave make for a spine-tingling festive experience.
